On February 10, 1894, a group of concerned citizens from the borough organized themselves into a volunteer firefighting unit known as Continental Hook and Ladder. Named as the first chief of the Fire Department was Genest Ottigon, affectionately known as “Pink Whiskers” for his stylish red beard, a trademark of the day. Westwood’s first piece of apparatus was a hand drawn hook and ladder outfitted with ladders, buckets, axes, hooks, crossbars and rope - everything the modern firefighter of the day would need to meet any situation the fire scene might present. Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation
Our mission is to save healthy, adoptable animals in the Haywood County Animal Control facility. Last year over 2,400 animals in the county facility were euthanized yet a large number were highly adoptable. Our mission is to take adoptable pets from the shelter, give them the loving care they need until their forever family adopts them.

We currently save those pets we can by placing them in local foster homes while we try to find permanent homes for them. Our goal is an Adoption Center with quarantine space, comfortable pens, outdoor runs, a cattery, areas for training and grooming. However, we think of our Foster Program as a ‘No-Kill Shelter Without Walls’ that enables us to save many dogs and cats right now.

It is in production at this time by Jeff Bach and 2 Wheel Films Inc. of Stoughton, and will be made of 100% Wisconsin parts. 100% of the proceeds from the Bucky Bike raffle will benefit the Special Olympics of Wisconsin thanks to Kwik Trip, 2 Wheel Films, Inc., and Badger Sports Properties. Sitrin provides inpatient and outpatient comprehensive medical rehabilitation, including physical, occupational, and aquatic therapy, speech and audiology, pediatric therapy, pain management, hand therapy, sports therapy, and many other specialized programs and services for children, adults, and seniors.

Team USA wearing the bronze medals they won at the World Wheelchair Games in Switzerland this past February!

Reaching out to people with disabilities, Sitrin implemented the region’s first athletic and recreational program for people with physical disabilities in 2001. Its STARS (Success Through Adaptive Recreation & Sports) Program offers wheelchair basketball, adaptive golf, wheelchair road racing, mono-skiing, adaptive paddling, and wheelchair curling. The STARS Program has achieved international acclaim for its wheelchair curling program. Sitrin’s wheelchair curling team, also known as Team USA, won the bronze medal at the World Wheelchair Curling Championships in Switzerland this past February. This was the first time that a United States wheelchair curling team has ever won a medal at the World Games.

Sitrin’s inpatient medical rehabilitation program is accredited by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, based upon its commitment, foresight, financial diligence, staff performance, and, most importantly, patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. It is the only long-term care facility in its region to have achieved this distinction.

Sitrin is in the midst of a $38 million expansion project, which will be making history in New York State!
