The Unity Shoppe is a 501(c)(3) Public Benefit Corporation that encourages self-sufficiency and independence by providing education and the necessities of life to families, children, seniors and persons with disabilities during periodic times of crisis. These necessities are provided in a dignified manner without regard to political affiliation, religious belief or ethnic identity.

On Friday, September 13, 2002, we closed escrow on our new building located at 1219 State Street thanks to the generosity of Pierre Claeyssens. Mr. Claeyssens led the campaign with a million dollar challenge grant to give us the opportunity to raise the balance of the funding to purchase a new building for the Unity Shoppe. The following board members serving in 2002 helped to make the “Miracle on State Street possible: Bob Smith, Chairman of the Board, Kenny Loggins, Herb Simon, Andy Granatelli, Morrie Jurkowitz, Robert Veloz, Robert Emmons, Richard Graham, Paula Lopez, Carolle VanSande, Bill Nicholson and Joseph Lake.

Barbara Tellefson and Tom Reed turned all their efforts into raising the additional million dollars needed to purchase our new home and to renovate what once was the old State Street Theater.
